KidGeni

KidGeni is a web-based AI art platform built specifically for children ages 5-12.
It lets kids generate images from text prompts, with roughly 15 art styles to choose from including cartoon, fantasy, anime, and line art.
The standout feature for younger children is a visual prompt builder that uses icons instead of typing, so a 5-year-old who cannot read or write can still create art independently.
KidGeni also includes an AI story generator with illustrated pages and text-to-speech narration (powered by ElevenLabs), a sketch-to-art tool that transforms kids' drawings into polished illustrations, and a book generator for creating illustrated children's books.
The platform has a print-on-demand feature where kids can put their AI-generated art on t-shirts ($24), long-sleeved shirts ($29), and hoodies ($42).
There is a parent dashboard showing every image created, every prompt used, and time spent on the platform.
However, KidGeni has a significant trust issue. In August 2024, the Children's Advertising Review Unit (CARU) found it in violation of COPPA for collecting children's personal data without parental consent, launching without a privacy policy, and failing to disclose that children's data was shared with third-party AI training services. KidGeni agreed to remediate but stated it disagreed with the findings. Parents should weigh the platform's strong content moderation against this data privacy track record.

Key Features
Visual prompt builder uses icons for subject, style, and colour selection so children aged 5-7 who cannot type can create AI art independently within 60 seconds of opening the platform.
Strong content filtering blocked 100% of inappropriate content attempts in independent testing, outperforming ChatGPT/DALL-E (94%) on adversarial prompts. A partner handles keyword filtering for safety.
Print-on-demand merchandise lets children put their AI-generated artwork on physical t-shirts, hoodies, and long-sleeved shirts, turning digital creations into wearable items they can show friends.
Parent activity dashboard displays every image created, every prompt entered, and total time spent on the platform, giving parents full visibility into their child's creative sessions.
Family Projects
- Creating a personalised storybook using the book generator to write and illustrate a story featuring your child's favourite characters or real-life scenarios like starting a new school
- Designing custom t-shirts for a family event, birthday party, or school project by generating art in different styles and ordering prints through the merchandise feature
- Turning your child's drawings into polished AI illustrations using the sketch-to-art tool, then comparing the original and AI version side by side as a creativity exercise
- Exploring different art styles by generating the same subject (their pet, favourite animal, dream house) across cartoon, fantasy, anime, and line art styles to learn about visual art concepts
- Building a prompt engineering vocabulary by browsing the Explore page to see what prompts other kids used, then experimenting with their own variations to understand how word choice affects output
